DiSC Dimensions of Behavior

This four-dimensional guide to human behavior was first developed by Hippocrates in 400 B.C. Today it is used as a quick and accurate way to build understanding of self and others, which improves communication and teamwork, and reduces conflict.

The DiSC Dimensions of Behavior model groups behavioral responses into four dimensions or clusters: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness.

  • Dominance: Emphasis is on shaping the environment by overcoming opposition to accomplish results.
  • Influence: Emphasis is on shaping the environment by influencing or persuading others.
  • Steadiness: Emphasis is on cooperating with others to carry out the task.
  • Conscientiousness: Emphasis is on working conscientiously within existing circumstances to ensure quality and accuracy.

Individual behavior patterns are revealed as combinations of the four styles at varying degrees.
